Message from the Director:
Dear Friends,
Many people are curious how Called to BE Church affects parish cemeteries. What will happen if a parish merges or closes? Will cemeteries close? Will the Diocesan Cemetery Office assume responsibility for these cemeteries?
Throughout the 27 month pastoral planning process, the 39 Local Planning Groups engaged in thoughtful, open, inter-parochial dialogue and developed specific recommendations and plans for the prudent use and sharing of spiritual and temporal resources, greater collaboration, and formal parish affiliation.
As for cemeteries, the diocese prefers that cemeteries remain with the parishes. The successor parish will assume responsibility for the operation of a parish cemetery, just as it does with other parish activities. Thus far, 3 such cemeteries have been transferred to a new parish.
As always, the Diocesan Cemetery Office stands ready to assist any parish cemetery with consultation and support.

Memorial Trees
A tree is an age-old symbol of life.
In a cemetery setting it is also a symbol of hope – withstanding the changes of season to season and standing tall to re-leaf once again.
What better way to keep your loved one’s memory alive than to make a tree a living tribute in their name. Your one-time donation includes either a newly planted 6” caliper tree or a heritage "specimen tree". A commemorative bronze plaque attached to a granite base adds dignity to the tribute. Please contact the cemetery office for more information.

Blessing of the Headstone

Jeanne Qualters, Assistant Director of Cemeteries, blesses a monument. As part of our ministry of consolation, Albany Diocesan Cemeteries offers families a chance to gather in prayer to bless a memorial. The Order of Blessing, lead by a cemetery staff member, includes prayer, a scripture readings, and a reflection from the family. Many families choose this service for birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions. To schedule a Blessing of the Headstone, please contact the Cemetery Office.

Please visit our website at rcdacemeteries.org for more information on the location of our cemeteries and services offered. This is a great informational tool concerning the thirteen cemeteries managed by the Albany Diocesan Cemeteries Office. From a listing of our most recently departed to general information concerning burial options, prices, bronze memorial designs, frequently asked questions, etc., the website provides data of general interest to our families whom we service or to those who are looking for assistance from a Diocesan cemetery. There is a short, colorful video presentation showing several sections of our cemeteries and a very helpful list of support groups sponsored by the Diocese.
If you can’t visit our Cemetery Office in person, visit the website. Either way, please let us know how we can best help you and your family.
