Historic St. Agnes Cemetery . . .
A Tradition of Faith for 140 Years
"It was a fair Spring day, May 19, 1867, when the Right Reverend Bishop Conroy of Albany, stood on a wide platform on the brow of the hill of St. Agnes Cemetery and pronounced the solemn words which converted the slope into consecrated ground." This flowery nineteenth century prose describes the scene where thousands of spectators lined the grassy slope down to the old Troy Road to witness this historic event. Over the past 140 years, the best skill of the sculptor, the landscape artist, the florist and the cemetery manager have been involved in the loving care of the graves of generations of Albany Catholics.
St. Agnes Cemetery will celebrate its 140th anniversary with several community events including historic tours, a photo contest, and an Audubon International Bird Count. Please join us for our celebration. Look for further information in future cemetery newsletters.

The infant burial section in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery
|
Most Holy Redeemer’s Infant Burial Section
On a large grave lot donated by the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor stands a beautiful memorial, also donated by the Sisters, marking the space for infant burial at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. The Cemetery had the memorial reworked and established an infant burial section in the lot consisting of 182 burial spaces. There is no charge for a space or interment for infants in this section.
Individual graves can be memorialized with a flush bronze marker, 18”x9”. These markers can be purchased at the Cemetery Office.
In the fall of 2001, the Cemetery designed and placed a granite infant memorial to honor the memory of all infants in the Cemetery. It states: “Let the Children Come to Me. “ “ In loving memory of all the infants whose care has been entrusted to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.” This memorial is located in Section H at the head of a lot where there are numerous unmarked infant burials. For a nominal fee, families can have their infant’s name inscribed on this memorial. Infant graves and interments are available at no charge in special sections at St. Mary’s, Troy and St. Agnes, Menands as well as Most Holy Redeemer.

General Cemetery Cleanup
The process of the general cemetery cleanup plays an important role in the beautification and preservation of the sacred resting place of the faithful departed. The cleanup is not intended to be punitive, but rather as defining an orderly plan of operation, care and permanent maintenance of our sacred space. A general cleanup is conducted twice a year, beginning on or about April 1 and November 1. All decorations are removed and discarded at this time. Lot owners should make sure they remove any decorations they wish to keep prior to these dates.
In addition to the two general cleanups, Christmas decorations are removed and discarded by the cemetery beginning on or about January 15th, weather permitting.
Please call the Cemetery Office if you have any questions or require further information about the general cleanup.

Please visit our website at rcdacemeteries.org for more information on the location of our cemeteries and services offered. This is a great informational tool concerning the twelve cemeteries managed by the Albany Diocesan Cemeteries Office. From a listing of our most recently departed to general information concerning burial options, prices, bronze memorial designs, frequently asked questions, etc., the website provides data of general interest to our families whom we service or to those who are looking for assistance from a Diocesan cemetery. There is a short, colorful video presentation showing several sections of our cemeteries and a very helpful list of support groups sponsored by the Diocese. If you can’t visit our Cemetery Office in person, visit the website. Either way, please let us know how we can best help you and your family.
